From the first vision to the perfect match: This philosophy is lived by the entire team behind the scenes at our training and competition stables. While the first breeding vision is formed in Lewitz, where the foals are raised and start their training, the stables in Mühlen represent the next steps of this overall concept. Here, the young horses are introduced to their first shows, and eventually matched with the ideal rider.
This approach, which accompanies the horses from the start, has been proven for a long time: Nationally and internationally, sport horses with the renowned "PS Seal of Quality" are in demand and dominate the competition world worldwide.
Anyone who has had the chance to look behind the scenes in Mühlen knows: Optimal management of both horse and rider is primarily a team effort. Around 50 riders are in the saddle here every day, while grooms, farriers, veterinarians, and organizational talents ensure the best conditions for each of the 250 horses stabled here.
The sport stable has long been considered a great career start for sports stars such as Ludger Beerbaum and Franke Sloothaak. Even today, many of the riders based here are firmly established in top-level sports, including Patrick Stühlmeyer, Philip Rüping, Eiken Satō, Alexa Stais, Zascha Nygaard Lill, and Isabel Freese.
Four big outdoor arenas, five indoor arenas, lunging arenas, walkers, grass and sand paddocks and fields provide the best conditions for varied training.
The training and competition presentation of the horses ultimately lead to horse sales: Riders from around the world trust the expertise of our sales consultants, who help find the "Perfect Match." Only when rider and horse are optimally matched, long-term success is guaranteed. Success – "made by PS."
Every detail matters
The philosophy of our training and educational stable is based on three pillars: Overall support for the horses from breeding and upbringing to competition success and sale. Teamwork behind the scenes, because only by working hand in hand can we provide the best conditions for both horse and rider. And finally, optimal management of each individual horse. Our stable is large, and we care for many horses. That is why we pay even more attention to every little detail.
Because only when every body works as a team, can we provide the best possible training for each horse, ensuring we reach our goal: The "PS" seal as an unconditional mark of quality. Around the globe. At every competition venue worldwide.
Successes & Modern Training
Paul Schockemöhle has always excelled at training and supporting top riders and horses, leading them to championship successes. His personal experience spans more than 50 years. Unforgettable are his medal wins in Montréal in 1976 and Los Angeles in 1984; in 1988, three of the four German team gold riders in Seoul came from his stable: Ludger Beerbaum on The Freak, Franke Sloothaak on Walzerkönig, and Dirk Hafemeister on Orchidee.
From Saudi Arabia to Ukraine to Japan, teams from various nations have trained with Paul Schockemöhle and celebrated impressive successes and podium finishes by his side. Paul's training philosophy is driven by the will to continuously develop, combining traditional values with the latest knowledge. This credo is lived by the entire team in Mühlen.
Today, in addition to other renowned trainers, it is primarily Andreas Kreuzer, Nicole Hörstkamp, and Stephan Fischer who are dedicated to training our riders. Once highly successful in the sport themselves, they now support the team with holistic coaching, from daily training to competition preparation. Grooms, veterinarians, farriers, and physiotherapists continuously ensure the best conditions for every horse. Our management leaves nothing to chance.
Deister, Boomerang, The Natural, Walzerkönig, Dulf, P.S. Priamos, Top Gun, and many more. Horse names that have made history in the sport – all of them made their way from Mühlen to the grand arenas of the world. While the champions of the past were often purchased horses, today, many of them come from Paul Schockemöhle’s own breeding program, such as the highly decorated Grand Prix horses Chacco Kid, Royce, and Ladriano Z, the winner of the Aachen Nations Cup, Balou du Reventon (Brian Moggre), the winner of the Grand Prix of Geneva and Verona, Calisto Blue (Daniel Deußer), and the winner of the London World Cup Jumping, The Sinner (Martin Fuchs), just to name a few.
The "Hall of Fame" of horses from the Mühlen Sport Stable spans from past heroes to current stars – and it continues to grow.
Perfect Matches
The Late-Entry Shows were held for the first time in 2020 at the facilities in Mühlen, Damme, and Ankum, it was primarily due to the COVID-19 pandemic: professionals were given the opportunity to show their young horses. Since then, these tournaments have become a part of the annual calendar in Mühlen.
The „Home-Shows“ offer us the opportunity to introduce our young horses to their first competition experiences in the simplest way possible. Ideal conditions and a horse-friendly environment: this way, the young horses have an easy introduction to their show life. At the same time, these events allow us to give something back to the riders from the local area. A "Perfect Match," indeed.
Perfect teamwork is essential to ensure smooth operations behind the scenes at our training stable. Every horse in our care should receive the best possible attention and management. This requires absolute experts, from grooms to farriers to riders.
At our stable in Mühlen, we not only employ permanent riders specializing in dressage or show jumping, but also a large team of experienced grooms to provide the necessary care for all the horses. Additionally, we have several veterinarians, farriers, and other experts in horse health as part of our team.
At first glance, it is primarily the "big names" that stand out: for instance, Nations Cup riders Patrick Stühlmeyer and Philip Rüping are part of our rider team, as well as the Norwegian team rider Isabel Freese and internationally successful riders Alexa Stais and Eiken Sato, to name just a few. However, it is the many small details that contribute to long-term success. Each stable in Mühlen is managed by its own small team, while the "big picture" is overseen by the managing directors and, in particular, our trainers.
The training of our horses is our most valuable asset – after all, they are the foundation. We believe that only by paying attention to every small detail, we can long success.
